About
Founded in 1188 by Aeddan of Grosmont this is a well-preserved and well-restored medieval parish church retaining fine original details.
Two yew trees in the churchyard give an indication of the ancient foundations of the site.
The church itself contains a spectacular survival - perhaps the most complete pre-Reformation rood arrangement in any

church in England or Wales.
The wonderfully decorated screen, loft and tympanum all still exist in spite of the rood cross itself being destroyed after the Reformation, probably in the reign of Edward VI.
