Conserving the Pilgrim Stone

The Pilgrim Stone is a remarkable medieval carved effigy of a man carrying his symbols of pilgrimage. On the 5th, conservator Kieran Elliott will start work on an exciting project to lift, conserve and resite the stone. Visitors are welcome to come and watch the process of conservation in action

About the event

The stone is of national importance in Britain to the understanding of medieval art and the practice of pilgrimage. However, its present position set in the floor of the church has led to it suffering from damp and decay.
